Image-Science Group and Digital Color

Research Topics: Acquisitions, compression, multi-spectral image segmentation and display, holography and digital color

This lab carries out research in those areas mentioned above. Research on holography is done by the HoloTec Company of New York. Currently, we have a combined research project that allows our students to visit and continue their research in this company’s labs as part of an exchange program.

Lab equipment: Computer controlled rotation base, Photodetector HPIB, CCD Cameras, infrared, color, monochromatic, liquid crystal display/screens, holographic tables, lasers and other light sources, Computers with Linux and Windows software in order to process images, Optics lab equipment in general. Lenses, divisors, various optical and mechanical components. 2D and 3D data visualization.

Courses: Digital Image Processing (PDI), Optical Signal Processing.
Special subjects: PDI Wavelets, Digital and visual correlation, Radiometry, Photometry and Colorimetry. Lab Instrumentation (in collaboration with other INAOE groups.)

Main Activities:

  • Through the use of digital mathematical morphology, we study multiple/ alternate filters and their sound elimination capacity.

  • Digital Creation of binary openings is researched using morphological methods to study their structure and Fraunhofer diffraction (dynamic) as an alternative to real time processing.

  • Color Theory is studied and its applications in the medical field.
