Congratulations to Grecia Beatriz Magdaleno Martínez on the successful defense of her master’s thesis in Biomedical Sciences and Technologies.
The Biomedical Optics Instrumentation Group (GIOB) at INAOE warmly congratulates Grecia Beatriz Magdaleno Martínez, who has successfully defended her thesis entitled "Application of Computed Tomography Imaging Spectrometry and Deep Learning in the Identification of Porcine Biological Tissues." This achievement marks an important milestone toward obtaining her degree as Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Technologies, under the supervision of Dr. Jorge Castro Ramos and co-supervision of Dr. Freddy José Narea Jiménez.
Grecia’s research focused on the implementation of Computed Tomography Imaging Spectrometry (CTIS), a technique that enables the instantaneous capture of spectral information and holds great promise for biomedical applications. In her study, CTIS was combined with deep learning, specifically convolutional neural networks (CNNs), to classify porcine biological tissues without the need to reconstruct the data hypercube, thereby reducing mathematical complexity and computational demands. The results demonstrated high effectiveness, achieving classification accuracies above 90% for differentiating the various porcine tissues. This work highlights the potential of CTIS combined with deep learning as a non-invasive alternative for biomedical diagnostics.
