Congratulations to Odalys Fabiola Aguilar Mejía on obtaining the degree of Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Technologies.
The Biomedical Optics Instrumentation Group (GIOB) at INAOE warmly congratulates Odalys Fabiola Aguilar Mejía, who has successfully defended her thesis entitled "Identification of the HWP1 Gene of the Yeast Candida albicans through Raman Spectroscopy." With this achievement, she has obtained the degree of Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Technologies, under the supervision of Dr. Jorge Castro Ramos and the co-supervision of Dr. Candy Yuriria Ramírez Zavaleta.
Odalys’s research focused on developing an innovative alternative for the identification of the yeast Candida albicans by combining molecular and spectroscopic techniques. Her work proposes the replacement of the traditional electrophoresis method in PCR product analysis with Raman spectroscopy, applying the MINMAX filter to suppress fluorescence and enhance spectral clarity. The results showed that this technique can provide a faster, more accurate, and efficient process for the detection of Candida albicans, representing a significant advancement in microbiological diagnostics.
Examination Committee:
- Dr. Rafael Izazaga Pérez (INAOE)
- Dr. Wilfrido Calleja Arriaga (INAOE)
- Dr. Josefat Gregorio Jorge (Comisión Nacional del Agua, SECIHTI)
Academic Observer:
Dr. Saúl Eduardo Pomares Hernández.
The defense took place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chavira Room at INAOE.
We are very proud of this great achievement and confident that Odalys will continue to succeed in her academic and professional career.
Congratulations on obtaining the degree of Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Technologies!
GIOB wishes her a future full of success in her upcoming endeavors.
